This 1952 build was generously proportioned, gentle in its age, but waiting for more-rooms that wanted warmth, function, and the feeling of having been gathered over time. Drawn to the ease of an English country house, the owners sought a generous addition to the back of the home included a new mudroom and dining room, a fully reworked kitchen, and a layered mix of natural fibers, antiques, and traditional details throughout.

Walnut and sage-green beadboard, brass hooks, and red brick underfoot give the mudroom the feel of a room worth lingering in rather than passing through. In the dining room, a gilt mirror and inlaid mahogany sideboard hold the space with the quiet authority of pieces that look as though they'd always lived there. The kitchen holds the deepest notes-dark green cabinetry, honed soapstone, aged brass, and reeded-glass uppers in warm wood that punctuate the home's original character.

Loved antiques, natural fibers, and traditional details accumulate without crowding, settling into old rooms and new alike, giving the home the unforced ease the clients were looking for all along.
